Schools shutting before the snow
Is it just me or didnt we used to go to school in shorts with snow knee deep? I now live in Bournemouth (never ever gets snow) we wake up to 1cm this monring and theyve shut all the schools. FMOB. Teachers claiming on social media they cant go in because theyll get sued by parents. Well fuck me, even if the kids cant go to school these lazy bastards can still go to work. If a child/parent/guardian or anyone else for that matter falls and hurts themselves on school premisis then they can claim the school failed in its health and safety duty of care. I am not saying it is right, merely pointing out a fact.

In terms of teacher's not going in, well if the place is shut then they can't. I know lots of teachers and they have all been told they must work from home today.

How is a school teacher supposed to WORK FROM HOME?

I apologise for my shocking use of punctuation and poor spelling in my previous post. Someone is bound to point it out.

If it's too dangerous for people to travel they should close. You get no extra life points for being hard and driving your kids in snow etc.

Re: Schools shutting before the snow
Obviously they can not teach Len but planning and a whole lot of other paper work can be.

penners28 11:18 Thu Mar 1
Re: Schools shutting before the snow
maybe they can do lesson planning or marking, which were continually told takes 10 hrs a day overtime to do...

No doubt some cunt will sue the education authorities on account that they had to take a day's leave to stay at home and look after THEIR OWN children.

Suits me. Person I was supposed to be meeting today can't go out as her kids are at home due to closed schools, therefore I'm on admin from home today.

No complaints.

When I used to teach I never did lesson planning or any of that bollocks.

I just winged it.

Re: Schools shutting before the snow
Our school never shut ... remember once we had a big Rugby game so the school got the first year boys to get out and shovel the snow off the lines on the pitch... oh we won... probably as our kit was all white

Daughters school called off 3rd day in a row now... to be fair it's pretty bad down this way ... saying that amazing that BOTH grammar schools down this way are open... and tehy have kids coming in from as far away as London... amazing that eh?

Re: Schools shutting before the snow
I know it seems mad but I can see their point.

My son goes to a school 9 miles away and has a large catchment area and I could get him there okay. But from about 12pm the snow is gonna hit bad so could I go get him safely?

I live on the Isle of Wight and the last lot of disruptive snow we got was at the end of 2010, and no one could remember when it last happened before that. But we don't have big a roads to keep clear and it could be very dangerous out there later.

Plus it's so cold can they keep the school temperature high enough to be safe? There are very clear H&S rules about this. I'm not saying it's right, it's just how it is.

My son's school decided to close today and I think that's the right decision.

No here's a thought....Why not just fine the School £60 for each child. This should cover childcare cost for those that work.

If it's not possible to get the kids to school, it's probably even less probable that they can be gotten to a child-care centre, or that the carers can get to the child's house.

Re: Schools shutting before the snow
I'm not complaining the kids arent at school. I'm moaning about the bloody teachers needing a 'day off at home'. The rest of us get to work so they can as well. With regards to the school being open, they fucking open them. Keep them working in their fucking staff room only for all i care, they just need to go to work too. It's comical, I mean they dont get enough fucking time off as it is!

Re: Schools shutting before the snow
Sidney... like I said... it's funny how our two local Grammar schools (Southend and Westcliff High) with catchment areas as far away as London have remained open... yet all the bog standard kids living local comprehensives... all closed...

JustAFatKevinDavies 1:57 Thu Mar 1
Re: Schools shutting before the snow
so essentially youd just drag them in as they don't need any more time off and to make a point, regardless of what conditions are.
